What is LAMDA?
LAMDA is The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. It is the UK’s oldest Speech and Drama exam board, with graded exams from 1 to 8 in Acting, Verse and Prose, Public Speaking, Musical Theatre and more. The exams build confidence, clear communication and performance skills.
UCAS points
LAMDA Level 3 grades — that is Grades 6, 7 and 8 — carry UCAS tariff points when awarded (Pass, Merit or Distinction). These points can support sixth form and university applications. For exact points, check the current UCAS tariff table.

We’re opening up more of our hugely successful 1:1 and small-group LAMDA classes on Zoom. We prepare young people for LAMDA Acting and Speaking exams, qualifications that are respected by UK colleges and universities, and at the higher grades can even earn UCAS points.
But just as important: we help them find their voice.
We specialise in working with all kinds of learners, including anxious students, neurodiverse students, and those who don’t always feel seen in a busy classroom. We use humour, patience and proper, real-world drama direction to build confidence in a way that feels safe.
What we offer
We mainly coach for solo and duo exams in Acting and Speaking in Public.
Students work on one, two or three pieces (depending on grade), from Entry Level all the way up to Grade 8. We’ll help you choose the right starting level, no pressure to jump too high too fast.
While we’re preparing for the exam, we’re actually working on bigger skills:
- a stronger, clearer speaking voice
- memory and focus
- self-belief
- the ability to communicate thoughts and feelings out loud
We treat every speech the way we would in a professional rehearsal room: what’s the character thinking, what are they trying to get across, how do we make that truthful and alive? It’s proper acting training, not just “say this nicely.”
Alongside Acting and Public Speaking, we can also enter students for:
- Verse & Prose
- Devising
- Musical Theatre
How we teach
- All sessions are on Zoom with an experienced teacher/working actor.
- After-school and early evening slots are available for school students.
- Daytime slots are available for home-educated learners.
We currently have a 100% pass rate, with the majority of students achieving high Merits and Distinctions.
Before the exam itself, where possible we offer an in-person intensive to settle nerves, polish the pieces, and make sure they go in feeling calm and proud of their work.
Where and when are the exams?
LAMDA exams usually run once or twice a year at a registered LAMDA examination centre or in London at the LAMDA centre.
Students attend, perform their pieces for a visiting examiner, and that’s it, no written paper.
Why LAMDA matters
LAMDA is designed for everyone. It supports confident performers and quiet thinkers. It helps students who love drama and students who would rather do literally anything than speak up in class.
These exams build real-life skills: public speaking, clarity, communication under pressure, self-control, presentation. Colleges and sixth forms love that. So do future interview panels.
And at higher grades, you’re earning a qualification with UCAS points.
