Info and Policies -The Curious Theatre Company

Because clear information makes everything calmer, safer and easier

Everything parents need to know…

minus the waffle

Welcome to our Curious information hub. This page gathers all the important bits parents need to feel safe, informed and totally confident about joining us. No jargon. No long-winded essays. Just simple, honest, human-friendly information.

Safeguarding

Your child’s safety comes first.
All Curious teachers are fully DBS checked and trained in safeguarding, child protection and online safety. Our sessions (both online and in person) follow the same safety principles as schools, but with a softer, more human approach.

We always:

  • Keep students’ emotional safety at the centre
  • Check in regularly, especially with quieter students
  • Encourage kindness and positive behaviour
  • Step in gently if anyone feels overwhelmed
  • Keep communication open with parents

Inclusion & SEND Support

Curious has a long history of supporting neurodiverse, anxious and SEND learners.

We adapt for:

  • Sensory needs
  • Processing differences
  • Social anxiety
  • Communication differences
  • Moments of overwhelm
  • EHCP needs

Students can:

  • Keep cameras off until ready
  • Take breaks
  • Type instead of speak
  • Move at their own pace
  • Sit out and rejoin when they feel comfortable

Every student is different. We meet them where they are and go from there.

  • Kindness first
  • No auditions, no favourites
  • Structure without stress
  • Creativity with clarity
  • Space for wobbles
  • Celebrate the small wins
  • Encouragement over perfection

We believe young people learn best when they feel safe, seen and supported.

Insurance

Curious Theatre Company is fully insured for teaching, performance activities and public liability.

Photos & Filming

We never use photos or videos of students publicly without written permission.
Parents can opt out at any time, no questions asked.

For online sessions, recordings are never made unless agreed with families for exam practice.

Privacy & Data

Your personal information stays private.
We only collect what we need to run your child’s classes and we never share data with any other organisation. No mailing lists. No marketing spam. No nonsense.

We keep things simple and kind:

  1. Kindness is non-negotiable.
  2. Effort beats perfection.
  3. Five-minute wobbles are allowed.
  4. Be polite, even on an off-day.
  5. Respect the room (even if it’s your own kitchen).
  6. Confidentiality matters within the group.
  7. Be brave, not perfect.
  8. Celebrate tiny wins as if they’re Oscars.

Payments

All Curious classes run in term-time blocks.
Fees are paid at the start of each block to secure your place.
If you join mid-term, you only pay for the remaining weeks. No back-charging for missed weeks.

LAMDA (online and in-person), GCSE & A Level Drama, GCSE & A Level Film and Online Curious Theatre Company all follow this system.

  • Half-term and holiday workshops are paid in full at booking.
  • Payment links are sent out for classes to simplify payments for all.

Refunds

Refunds are available before the start of a term or workshop.
Once a block has begun, fees are non-refundable except in exceptional situations (injury, bereavement, long-term illness).

This is simply because we reserve your child’s place for the whole block and turn families away once we are full.

FAQs

Can parents sit nearby for online sessions?

Yes. Many do. Your child’s comfort comes first.

What if my child is anxious or nervous?

Totally fine. We specialise in helping anxious learners. They can ease in gradually.

What if my child misses a session?

We always try to offer an alternative time when possible

Do you work with EHCP students?

Absolutely. We welcome them and adapt as needed.

What if we need to leave the session for a moment?

Breaks are encouraged. Students can step out, breathe, and return when ready.

Are beginners welcome?

Yes. Curious is for everyone, not just theatre kids.
