One small step at a time

Launching Thursday January 15th 2026: A theatre company for everyone, even from home

These small online theatre companies are designed for children and teens who love drama but don’t thrive in large or high-pressure environments. They are ideal for home-educated students, anxious young people, and creative thinkers who need a calm, welcoming space.

TIME SLOTS

Ages 6–10
Thursday 1:00–2:00 (Home-Ed)

Ages 11–16
Thursday 2.30–3:30 (Home-Ed)

Sessions run Tuesday–Thursday only. Places are limited to keep groups calm and supportive.

The Online Curious Theatre Company is a creative, low-pressure space for young people who love drama, but do not feel comfortable in mainstream environments.

Some experience anxiety and so avoid the busy school environment. Others are home-educated as they prefer quieter, calmer, creative spaces.

Here, they can still belong to a real theatre company, make friends, create original work and build confidence, all from the safety of home.

Online Curious TC - The Curious Theatre Company

Our approach

At Online Curious TC, we treat every child as if they might be dealing with challenging issues. Even if they do not tell us, many of them are. So, we always:

  • Allow children to sit out if they need to
  • Start each session with a catch-up
  • Prepare students in advance for anything that might be tricky (loud noises, intense themes, new activities)
  • Offer alternate roles for those who are not ready to perform
  • Check in regularly so quieter young people are never lost in the background

Some children are ready to act within weeks. Some take months or years. Either way, they are never rushed or pushed. Sessions are relaxed and collaborative, with lots of laughter, warmth and encouragement.

What we do

Each week we meet online to explore drama through fun, structured sessions. We rehearse, improvise, story-build, read plays – all at each student’s pace.

Students learn:

  • Performance and improvisation skills
  • Confidence, communication and self-expression
  • How to create original work from home
  • Teamwork, listening and social skills
  • How to take creative risks in a safe environment

How it works:

  • Weekly Teams sessions led by an experienced drama teacher (Enhanced DBS checked and safeguarding trained)
  • Small, supportive groups where every voice is heard
  • No pressure, no spotlight, join in at your own pace
  • Optional end-of-term online showcase or recorded project
  • Parents can sit nearby if their child needs reassurance
  • Cameras on when possible, but never forced
  • Breaks allowed any time, students can step out and return when they are ready

How we welcome everyone

Joining a new group can feel overwhelming, so we start building trust from the moment a parent gets in touch. Before a free taster, we invite families to share anything that might help us support their child: diagnoses, anxiety triggers, sensory needs or simply a quick chat to settle nerves. We then send a friendly welcome video so students can see who is running the session and know exactly what to expect. That small bit of familiarity often takes away half the worry.

Why it works

Not every young person thrives in busy halls or noisy studios

Online Curious TC offers structure, connection and creativity in a quieter space
Ideal for rebuilding confidence, communication and social skills at a gentle pace
Students often start out with the sound down, cameras off, unsure, but bit by bit they begin to:

  • Turn cameras on
  • Share ideas
  • Lead scenes
  • Make friends across the country

Who it is for

  • Young people with anxiety or school-based stress
  • Home-educated students wanting creative connection
  • Teens who prefer small groups to big drama studios
  • Students with sensory needs, ASD or social communication differences
  • Anyone who loves drama and exploring storytelling

What you will need

  • A device with a camera and microphone
  • A quiet space to move and speak freely
  • Curiosity, imagination
  • And the occasional pet who wanders into the scene

Here’s how it works:

  • Step 1 – Free taster Email me to book a relaxed online taster.
  • Step 2 – Your weekly slot Online Curious runs on the same day and time every week, so the structure feels safe and predictable. You just show up, remember to breathe and let the creativity happen.
  • Step 3 – Prices Online Curious TC sessions are 60 minutes.
  • Free until February half term then £10 per week.
  • Step 4 – Pay for sessions in half-term blocks at the start Online Curious TC is paid in half-term blocks. This keeps everything clear and predictable for both of us. If your child joins halfway through a term, you only pay for the remaining weeks.

Curious House Rules

Because even the most creative chaos needs a little structure

  1. Kindness is non-negotiable.
We cheer, support, sometimes clap wildly but never mock or roll eyes. This is a drama space, not a talent show.
  2. Be polite
Even on an off-day, try to be polite. Bit moody is fine. Being rude is not.
  3. Try your best, not anyone else’s best.
Perfection is banned. Effort is celebrated. Mistakes are inevitable and welcomed.
  4. Five-minute wobbles are allowed.
Feeling overwhelmed or tired? Tell me in the chat or on camera. We pause, reset and then carry on together.
  5. Respect the room (even if it is your kitchen).
Come with what you need: script, water, a pen, and ideally a chair that will not collapse dramatically mid scene!
  6. Confidentiality matters.
What is shared in Curious stays in Curious, unless it is a safeguarding concern.
  7. Be brave, not perfect.
Even the RSC has off days. You are allowed them too.
  8. Celebrate the small wins.
Camera turned on? Big win. One line spoken? Huge win.  Joining in while anxious? Oscar worthy. Speech fully learned? Nobel Prize
